- Shut off Bierie Field lighting as quickly as possible after field usage is concluded
- Replace incandescent light bulbs with energy-saving CFL (compact fluorescent lamp) bulbs, where possible
- Encourage members of Loras community to turn off lights and electronic devices when not in use or overnight, when it is reasonable and appropriate to do so
- Install motion sensors (e.g., in all classrooms, bathrooms, hallways, rarely-used areas) and timers (e.g., outdoor lighting of Keane Hall) where appropriate
- Install thermal efficient windows in college buildings
- Heat and cool all new buildings with geothermal systems
- Purchase Energy Star appliances and electronics, whenever possible
- Encourage use of rechargeable batteries
- Explore the feasibility of other energy sources such as solar and wind power
- Maximize use of natural light
- Update old appliances
- Install energy “misers” (available through Alliant Energy) in the vending and cooling machines.
