Thys Central Region Women's Field Athlete of the Year

On Wednesday, Ellen Thys, a senior from Victor, Iowa was named the Central Region Women's Field Athlete of the Year by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. Ellen competes in the throwing events for the Duhawks and is currently in Oshkosh, Wisconsin for the 2008 NCAA III Championships.

Ellen has two top ten throws in the NCAA III this year. She is second in the discus throw (159'-7"), which is scheduled to begin on Friday, May 23, at 6:00 PM. She also has the eighth best hammer throw of the season (169'-4"). That competition begins on Friday afternoon.

Ellen is a captain of the team in 2008 and has finished second and third in her previous two seasons in the discus.
