Women's Track & Field 5th, Men 15th at NCAA Meet

The Loras College women's Track & Field team concluded their most successful NCAA meet since 1998 on Saturday with a 5th place finish in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.

Dana Klemm capped off her career with a convincing win in the Shot Put on Saturday. The senior won with a distance of 47' - 6 1/2" to claim her second straight All-American performance in the event - she was fifth in 2006. Klemm also finished second in the Hammer Throw (181' - 4") and seventh in the Discus Throw (136' - 5"). For her trio of All-American performances she was named Women's Field Event Performer of the Meet.

Ellen Thys was second in the Discus Throw with a distance of 145' - 3" in her first throw. Thys finished third in the event in 2006 as a sophomore. She was also an All-American in the Javelin Throw in 2005.

Allison Evans, Abby Erion, and Whitney Calvert also concluded their highly decorated careers this weekend. The three young women tallied multiple Iowa Conference Championships in multiple events in their time with the team. Evans and Calvert were All-Americans in 2004 and 2006, respectively. Evans finished seventh in the 100 M Dash (12.66) to claim her 2007 All-American title.Whitney Calvert finished tenth in the Pole Vault (11' - 10 1/2") on Friday in her final trip to the NCAA Championships.

The women finished tied for 5th place  - their highest finish since 1998, also fifth - with 32 points. 67 NCAA Division III schools sent athletes to the 2007 Championships.

Men
Geoff Kaiser won himself a national championship on Thursday when he took the Long Jump title (23' - 10 3/4") amidst less than perfect conditions. It was the senior's first championship and third time as an All-American in the event. Also on Thursday, Kaiser qualified for the finals of the 400 M Hurdles with the second best time. On Saturday, he was named All-American for his third place finish in that event.

Kyle Calvert was also an All-American in 2007 after a seventh place finish in the Pole Vault (15' - 9 1/4"). This was the first outdoor All-American performance for the sophomore from Pekin, Illinois.

The men finished in 15th place with 17.5 points. 72 NCAA Division III schools sent athletes to the 2007 Championships.
