Ulferts, Calvert earn regional recognition Jon Denham, Sports Information Director March 13, 2008
The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced their regional indoor awards on Wednesday, and two Duhawks were named to the Central Region squads.
Each of the eight regions-on both the men's and the women's sides-recognizes three people; track athlete, field athlete, and coach. Loras College sophomore Liz Ulferts was named the Central Region Field Athlete of the year following her NCAA III best 58'-1 1/4" weight throw at the IIAC Championships. On the men's side, junior Kyle Calvert was named Central Region Field Athlete of the year for his performance in the pole vault. Calvert set a career best mark and moved up to third in the country on Friday in Whitewater, Wisconsin when he cleared 17'-3/4".
These two Duhawks, along with seven other teammates, will compete this weekend at Ohio Northern University at the 2008 NCAA III Indoor Championships. |
