Duhawks claim final IIAC Tourney slot, first in program history Jon Denham, Sports Information Director Dubuque, Iowa
The Loras College softball team (17-19, 7-9) earned the final spot in the upcoming Iowa Conference Tournament in Fort Dodge, Iowa following Saturday's split with cross-town rival University of Dubuque. The Duhawks then increased their win total in the IIAC with a Game 2 win versus Central College on Sunday. The tournament is set to begin Thursday, May 3rd at the Rogers Sports Complex.
The Duhawks will be the #6 seed in their first trip to the tournament following a 7-9 Iowa Conference record. Loras will play the #3 Wartburg College Knights (23-6, 8-4) at 3 PM in game two of the Iowa Conference Tournament. A win in the opening round would mean a night game versus the #2 seed Coe College. A loss would put the Duhawks in the noon time slot on Friday. Complete tournament information is available here.
The Duhawks will prep for the tournament when they play Clarke College in a doubleheader at Faber-Clark field on Tuesday. First pitch is 3 PM.
This is the first trip to the IIAC tourney for the Duhawks in this their first season under Head Coach Katie Koopman. The 2007 season is the second of the tournament format for softball in the Iowa Conference. |
