Mary Bridget Corken won the 2008 Iowa Conference individual championship on Saturday in Storm Lake, Iowa when she posted a Loras College 6K record of 21:12.40 at Buena Vista University. In doing so, she led the Duhawks to a third place team finish (90), and became Loras' first individual champion since Jenny Richey in 1998.

Corken was followed to the line by Wartburg junior Anna Kraayenbrink and Luther's Janet Dobyns. Dobyns, a senior, had won the event the previous two years. Kraayenbrink was Corken's target in the late stages of the race, telling the Telegraph Herald, "With about 1,200 meters left, I made a move on her...I thought I had something to finish with."

The rest of the Loras field included a trio of runners within 16 seconds of each other. Placing 18th was Erica Stevens (22:44), 20th was Tara Kilburg (22:50), and 23rd was Hannah Weiss (23:01). Meghan Wolett finished 35th in 23:22.

The Duhawks will now prep for the November 15th NCAA III Regional race at Grinnell College in Grinnell, Iowa.
