Loras Women edge past Luther for Senior Day victory Kristine Mason, SID Assistant February 16, 2008
The Loras College women's basketball team bounced back from a slow start in their last home game against the Luther College Norse Saturday afternoon in the Athletics & Wellness Center. The final score, 68-63, brought the Duhawks to a 7-7 conference record and 15-8 overall on Senior Day.
Loras was down 10-0 in the first half before completing any baskets. After gaining some composure, the Duhawks were able to catch the Norse. The two teams fought a tough battle right up until the final seconds of the game, and Loras was able to pull off the win.
In a combined effort, sophomore Lindsay Bava and senior Natalie Pucci, made up 48 of the 68 points scored in the game. Bava led the Duhawks with a career high of 29 points on 10-12 shooting from the field and 7-8 from the free throw line. Bava made two three-pointers.
Senior Danielle Dunnwald put up 22 points for Luther (10-4, 13-9). The Norse are currently ranked second in the IIAC behind top ten Simpson College, whom they defeated last week. Coe, the third place team in the standings entering today, won their game.
Loras will face Cornell College (3-11, 8-15) Wednesday night on the Rams home court in Mt. Vernon, Iowa at 6:00pm. |
