Green steps down as Head Coach, Heinzen steps in Jon Denham, Sports Information Director September 13, 2007
The Loras College women's basketball team has a new head coach this week, following the departure of Shauna Green to Providence College in Rhode Island. Loras announced her move on Monday and today announced the hiring of Justin Heinzen as her replacement.
Green and the Loras Athletics Department hired Heinzen as an assistant this summer and on Thursday Justin was promoted to the head coaching position on an interim basis for the 2007-2008 season. Justin came to Loras from Lakeland College in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. The team there achieved regular success during his two seasons as an assistant with the program totaling 40 wins and making an NCAA III Tournament appearance.
In response to the personnel moves, each added their thoughts.
Green noted, "I have truly enjoyed my time here at Loras and want to thank them for the opportunities that they have given me. This was one of hte hardest decisions that I've ever had to make and it is because of the people here and my team."
Heinzen also made note of the opportunity he has, saying, "I'm very excited to inherit a team with so much recent success and overall talent. It is a chance to jump into a situation and a program that is definitely on the rise due to the job Coach Green has done the last couple of years."
The first practice of 2007 will be October 15th and the opening game of the season is November 16th. |
