Duhawks lose by 11 to Spartans

The Loras College women’s basketball team (12-7, 4-6) fell to hometown rival University of Dubuque (11-8, 5-5) Wednesday night in the Athletics & Wellness Center. The Duhawks got off to a rough start as the Spartans were able to gain an 11-0 lead in the first 3:53 of the game. Loras began to close the gap as the first half wore on, and took a three point lead into halftime. After going 1-10 from the field early, the Duhawks finished the first half making 11 of their final 20 shots.
The Duhawks led by as many as six in the second half before the Spartans claimed the lead at the midway point of the final frame. The final score ended 71-60 as the Spartans pulled away down the stretch.
Sophomore Mindy Meyer and senior Natalie Pucci led the Duhawks in points with 18 and 16 respectively. Sophomore Lindsay Bava led in rebounds with seven.
Sophomore Jennifer Nichols was the leading scorer for the Spartans with 22 points (8-19 FG, 3-9 3 PT FG), while senior Jennifer Bell added 20 points of her own (7-8 FG).
Loras will be on the road this weekend as they face another conference opponent, the Central College Dutch (2-8, 4-15) this Saturday in Pella, Iowa.
