Duhawks win third straight conference game, secure IIAC Tournament berth Kristine Mason, SID Assistant February 20, 2008
The Loras College women's basketball team will return home with yet another conference victory against Cornell College in Mt. Vernon on Wednesday night, 70-53. The win will secure a spot for the Duhawks in the Iowa Conference Tournament one week from today.
The women are now 17-8 overall and are pulling ahead in their conference wins with a record of 9-7.
Mindy Meyer, the sophmore center, had a big game as she scored a team high of 18 points, made all of the team's 5 blocks, and caught 6 rebounds for Loras. She also shot 7-8 from the paint. Senior Natalie Pucci added 17 baskets sinking 5-6 of her three point field goal attempts increasing the team's overall 3FG percentage to an impressive 64.3% for the game.
Freshman standout for Cornell, Melanie Duplessis, led the way for the Rams with 22 points.
Loras will take the 5-hour long trip to Buena Vista University in Storm Lake, Iowa on Saturday, February 23 to finish out their regular season. The Beavers are 13-11 overall and 7-8 in the conference. BVU is also guaranteed a spot in the IIAC tournament after an easy win against Central College, 100-75.
