Duhawks fall to Coe by 10, Pucci sets record Jon Denham, Sports Information Director January 21, 2008
BOXSCORE
The Loras College women's basketball team dropped their second straight game on Monday 68-58 to the Coe College Kohawks. The Duhawks were set back by 26% shooting from the field in the first half and struggled to regain momentum over the long term in the second half. At it's peak, the momentum had the Duhawks within two points with six minutes remaining. Coe answered with a 6-0 run that lasted until the three minute mark and never looked back.
Natalie Pucci scored a team-high 16 points, followed by Lisa Morrissey's 12. Each player was forced to leave the court for different reasons down the stretch. Pucci headed to the bench with some assistance from the training staff after landing awkwardly in an attempt to tip a pass sent into the post. She would return at the next substitution. Morrissey fouled out of the game with 38 seconds remaining when the Duhawks trailed by 10.
In the loss, Pucci became Loras' all time three point leader. In last Wednesday's game against BVU Pucci surpassed Erin Boxleiter to claim the second spot on the list. Tonight, the senior from West Dundee, Illinois made four three-pointers, totaling 210 for her career, breaking Nicole Anderson's record of 207 set in the 1996-1997 season.
Loras shot 32% for the game compared to 56% by Coe. Each team is now 4-3 in IIAC play. A busy week in the league continues on Wednesday when the Duhawks travel to Decorah to take on Luther. The women tip at 6:00 PM and can be heard on the Duhawk Broadcast Network via the Loras College website. |
