BOXSCORE
The Loras College women's basketball team ended a five game losing streak on Saturday in Pella, Iowa 78-74 over the Central College Dutch.
Lindsay Bava went 7-13 from the field and 7-9 from the free throw line to lead the Duhawks with 22 points in a hotly contested game down the stretch. Bava scored the final four points of the game for the Duhawks, all from the free throw line. Neither team scored in the final 1:30 of regulation, but each team had looks at the basket. A three pointer by Jordan Waddell with 1:37 left tied the game and ended the scoring through 40 minutes.
Mindy Meyer converted an old-fashioned three point play for Loras' first basket with just under three minutes remaining in overtime. A 2+ minute scoring drought ensued courtesy of both teams (combined 0-4 from field), and Natalie Pucci gave the Duhawks the lead with a layup in the final :35.
Pucci led the team in rebounding and Mindy Meyer turned away three shots. Central turned the ball over a very costly 29 times, resulting in 29 Duhawks points.
Loras will travel to Cedar Rapids, Iowa to play Coe College on Wednesday night. Tipoff is 6:00 PM. Coe won 68-58 on January 21st in the AWC. |
