WHY WRESTLE FOR LORAS COLLEGE??

 

 

Academics

  • The Loras College wrestling team has placed 19th (twice), 12th, 5th & 4th in the National Wrestling Coaches Association Scholar Team Competition.  The 2002-2003 squad had a team GPA of 3.399.
  • In the past 8 years, the program has produced 12 Academic All-Americans.
  • The program has a 100% graduation among wrestlers who wrestle in the program for all four years.

Loras College Wrestling

  • The program is designed to provide opportunities for individuals to excel both on and off the mat. The coaching staff is committed to developing individuals in all areas.
  • Eight top-16 finishes in the NCAA Final Dual Meet Poll:  1998- 9th; 1999- 12th; 2000- 9th; 2001- 6th; 2002-7th; 2003-6th; 2004-12th; 2005-16th.
  •  Outstanding administrative, student and alumni support.
  • Loras College Wrestling hosted the 2004 NCAA Division III National Tournament.
  • Loras College Wrestling is recognized around the nation as one of the premier Division III programs.

Coaches

  • Head Wrestling Coach, Randy Steward, has built Loras Wrestling into a national power during his twelve year tenure.  During this time, he has amassed over 100 dual meet victories, coached 26 All-Americans (including two National Champions.)  His teams have placed in the top-16 at Nationals 9 times and have placed in the top-4 of the prestigious Iowa Conference 11 times.
  • Assistant coaches:  six assistant coaches who, between them, own 10 All-American honors, 1 National Championship and a combined win total of 613 victories.

The College

  • Founded in 1839, Loras College is Iowa’s oldest private college.
  • Average class size is 17 students.  You may choose between 50 different majors and 15 pre-professional programs.
  • New Curriculum at Loras College is flexible; it will allow for a student to graduate Loras in four years and have the ability to double major, minor or diversify according to their major.
  • New Academic Resource Center, completed in 2002, is a 90,000 square foot facility that holds Iowa’s largest private collection of books.
  • Loras is a technology-enhanced campus:  all students receive an IBM wireless laptop computer.  The college, itself, is wireless and allows students to be online anywhere on campus.
  • Outstanding student support services (Mentoring &, Tutoring programs and Math & Writing labs.)
