Dave begins his first season at the helm of the Loras College men's tennis program after one year as an assistant coach. A native of Dubuque, Dave's playing career includes time with the Dubuque Senior High School squad - where he was a state qualifier - and two seasons as a student-athlete at Loras College. Beyond his interscholastic competition, he regularly competes in local tournaments, including the Mississippi Valley Open and at the Alpine Tennis & Fitness Center.

In addition to his tennis career, Hammel also serves on the board of a number of local groups. He is currently involved in the Dubuque Area Substance Abuse Coalition, the Prevention of Child Abuse Council, The S.O.U.R.C.E. recovery center, and the Dads in Recovery organization.

"I've been playing this game for 20 years and absolutely love it," Hammel said shortly after accepting the position. "And I love the fact that I can share the tennis experience at Loras now. I'm excited to be taking over the program and I'm looking forward to the spring season."
