Senior men’s basketball player Kyle White was named first team All-West District and second team State Farm All-America on Thursday by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC). White, a native of Antioch, Illinois, concluded his career on March 8, 2008 as a two-time Iowa Conference MVP and in the 16 IIAC games this year averaged a league high 17.9 points per game. He was also second in rebounding and third in field goal percentage this year.
Kyle was also named as a member of the d3hoops.com All-West Region (2nd) team recently. He was a three time All-IIAC player in his four year career with the Duhawks. For his efforts in his 2006-2007 junior season, White was a third team selection on the NABC squad and a second team d3hoops.com All-West Region team. The 2008 d3hoops.com All-America team will not be released until this weekend.
In 2008, the Duhawks qualified for the NCAA III Championship Tournament when they won the IIAC tournament championship. The Duhawks upset then #2 UW-Whitewater in the closing seconds of the game on March 7th on a White three-pointer to earn their first NCAA III tournament win since returning as an NCAA member over 20 seasons ago. The Duhawks finished 2007-2008 22-7 overall under first year head coach Greg Gorton.
“Kyle had a dominant year for us, and he continued to improve, even as his senior season progressed. He was one of many important parts in our success this season and he has been a pleasure to coach,” head coach Greg Gorton said Thursday.
