The Loras College men's basketball team will be on the road in Whitewater, Wisconsin to take on the Warhawks (24-4) this Friday for their opening round game of the NCAA III Men's Basketball Championships. Other qualifiers in the opening weekend site are Lawrence and Wheaton (IL).
The 2007-2008 team is 21-6 entering the NCAA Tournament. Last year, the Duhawks earned their first NCAA III bid since returning as an NCAA member in 1986-1987 by winning the IIAC regular season and tournament titles, closing the Fieldhouse with a 77-62 win over Buena Vista. Loras traveled to St. John's (MN) for their opening round game, falling in overtime to the Johnnies 85-82.
This year, the Duhawks entered the league tournament as the #2 seed and defeated Coe College in the semifinals before knocking off BVU in Storm Lake on Saturday night to earn the automatic berth.
A handful of Duhawks with no class scheduled over the 11:00 hour gathered in Wahlert Hall (above) with head coach Greg Gorton to watch the NCAA selection show which aired online and began at approximately 11:20 central time.
Game times for Friday have not been set. The University of Wisconsin at Whitewater has a web page reserved for the NCAA tournament HERE .
