The Loras College men’s basketball team (21-6) will take on the #4 University of Wisconsin – Whitewater (24-4) on Friday night at 8:00 PM in Whitewater, Wisconsin. The Duhawks earned the Iowa Conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA III Tournament on Saturday with a 77-69 win over Buena Vista University in Storm Lake, Iowa. Whitewater defeated UW-Stevens Point 75-71 in the final of the WIAC tournament to earn their automatic spot in the field of 59 teams.
The Duhawks will take on the Warhawks in the second half of the regional doubleheader hosted by UW-Whitewater. Game one will be between #16 Lawrence University (22-2) and Wheaton College (IL) (19-7) and will tip at 6:00 PM. The winners will play at 7:00 PM at the Williams Center in Whitewater, Wisconsin at 7:00 PM on Saturday, March 8.
The Warhawks and Duhawks most recent meeting was the season opener for Loras in 2005-2006. Loras won that game in the Fieldhouse 73-71. This is the second consecutive trip for Loras to the NCAA III Tournament since rejoining the NCAA III for the 1986-1987 season. In the opening round last year, the Duhawks fell in overtime at St. John’s (MN) 85-82.
Tickets for the game are available by contacting the UW-Whitewater Williams Center Ticket Office at 262-472-2222. Prices are $6 for a general admission adult ticket and $3 for seniors, children, and college students with proper ID.
The game can be heard locally on WDBQ-AM 1490 and worldwide on the Duhawks Broadcast Network via the Loras College website beginning at 7:30 PM.
