| Duhawks defense, seniors lead way in win over Norse Jon Denham, Sports Information Director February 16, 2008
The Loras College men's basketball team won their eighth straight game on Saturday by a convincing score of 61-43. The Duhawks were unpleasant hosts, limiting the Norse to 33% shooting from the floor, allowing no one to score in double figures.
It was a strong showing on senior day for the Duhawks, who started all four veteran players; Kyle White, Luke Slater, Reggie Rowe, and Kyle Sperfslage. White led the team in scoring with 21, and Slater chipped in with 10. Rowe scored five points and also added a team high seven rebounds to his stat line. Sperfslage took two shots, neither of which fell, but did contribute three rebounds and two assists to the Duhawks' win.
For Luther, it was a mix of a poor shooting night and a determined Loras defense. The men in blue converted just 2-19 three-point attempts and made 7-10 free throws.
Loras has locked up an opening round IIAC bye, and will host a game on the 28th of this month. Final standings, however, are not set, as the Duhawks will play two more road games next week. They will take the trip to Mt. Vernon on Wednesday to play Cornell before ending the season with a much anticipated rematch with Buena Vista on the 23rd.
Tipoff on Wednesday is 8:00 PM and can be heard on WDBQ-AM 1490 and the Duhawks Broadcast Network.
