| White into record books, Duhawks win 67-44 Jon Denham, Sports Information Director December 5, 2007
The Loras College men's basketball team won their fourth consecutive game on Wednesday night over the University of Dubuque at McCormick Gym. The Duhawks convincing 23 point win was the second of the Iowa Conference schedule and fourth of 2007-2008.
Dubuque shot a chilly 28% from the field on the night, scoring 21 points in the first half and 23 in the second, adding up to a 67-44 loss for the hosts, who were hastled by the stingy Loras defense all night. Loras benefited from four consecutive three pointers to begin the game and never looked back, hitting on nearly 50% of their shots and 8 of 19 three-point field goals in the rout. Dubuque's leading scorer Tyler Daugherty scored 11 points on 4-16 shooting, under his season average to this point of the season.
The biggest individual story of the game was the 11 point night of senior Kyle White. The Antioch, Illinois native reached 1,000 points for his career with the a late game layup in traffic, leading to a chorus of cheers by fans and teammates alike. White left the game a few moments later to another ovation honoring his accomplishment.
During the current four game winning streak, the Duhawks have defeated three opponents by 20 points or more. Luke Slater and Ricky Kolze led the way with 15 points, followed by White and Jake Oeth who each added 11. White was one rebound shy of his third consecutive double-double.
Loras will return to the AWC on Saturday night to face University of Chicago (3-3) at 7:30 PM. The Maroons lost to Wheaton (IL), a common opponent of the Duhawks, 75-73 on November 28.
