| Duhawks mount comeback, knock off Coe 72-69 Jon Denham, Sports Information Director January 21, 2008
BOXSCORE
Monday night's IIAC men's basketball game at the Athletics & Wellness Center was a clear contrast from the game held there last Wednesday against BVU. In that game, the lead changed some 13 times before the Duhawks fell by two points. Tonight, there was just one lead change, and it came with 2:46 remaining in the game.
Coe College tried to hand the Duhawks their third straight IIAC loss in claiming the early lead, but a late 14-0 run by Loras highlighted the win. Brian Centella started the run with a pull up 8 foot jump shot in the lane and Ricky Kolze made two three-pointers just 50 seconds apart to turn the AWC crowd around. Then, with momentum on their side, the Duhawks took the lead for good 67-65 on a Luke Slater three pointer from just left of the top of the key.
Loras shot an impressive 57% from the field in the win, going 28-49. Landon Stanfield led the way for Coe with 16 points and had a chance to tie the game with a 24 foot jumper that landed on the back iron with less than a second on the clock. Kyle White recorded his third straight double-double, scoring 23 points and pulling down 12 rebounds.
Loras will continue their busy IIAC week on Wednesday when they travel to Luther College. Tipoff is 8:00 PM. The Duhawks return to the AWC on Saturday to host Simpson College.
