| Wagner, Beavers hand Duhawks first IIAC loss Jon Denham, Sports Information Director January 16, 2008
Buena Vista junior guard Andre Wagner buried a 19 foot jump shot with 1.1 seconds left on the clock for the game-winner on Wednesday night in the AWC to help the Beavers hand the Loras College men's basketball team their first league loss of the season. The Beavers, who lost to the Duhawks three times last year, including the IIAC title game in the Fieldhouse finale, upped their IIAC best record to 6-0 with the road win.
In a game that had 13 ties and 10 lead changes, the fans who were focused on Lillis Court for 40 minutes were served an absolute basketball treat. Wagner, who led the way for BVU with 21 points, made five three point field goals and went 8-20 on the night, pulling his quick trigger jump shot at any opportunity. For the night, BVU was 10-25 from behind the arc. Brian Fogleman chipped in 14 and was the only other Beaver in double figures.
For the Duhawks, Kyle White was an efficient 7-12 from the field, including three 3-point field goals of his own for a team-high 19 points and earned his second straight double-double. Luke Slater added 14 and 12 rebounds in the loss.
Loras outrebounded BVU 41-34, but also turned the ball over seven more times (17-10). The final turnover came on the last possession, as the Duhawks were unable to hold the long inbounds pass and take a potential game-winning heave from half court.
BVU made 25 field goals to Loras' 24, and that one field goal proved the difference.
The Duhawks will be on the road Saturday in Indianola, Iowa, when they take on Simpson. Tipoff is set for 4:00 PM.
