The Loras College baseball team won their third straight game (and sixth of their last seven) on Tuesday with a doubleheader sweep of the University of Dubuque. The offense produced 27 runs, including 10 via seven homeruns en route to the wins.

Kyler Laurie and Alex Mallonee earned wins on the mound for Loras. The two starters combined to throw 10 of the 14 innings for the Duhawks, allowed just nine hits, and struck out seven Spartans. Each also allowed two earned runs.

Offensively, the purple and gold were led by Austin Brown, Adam Gross (above, celebrating his first homerun with his teammates), and Ben Kuebel. Each Duhawk had multiple hits in both games, and for Brown and Gross, that included homeruns in both halves of the doubleheader. Keubel went 6-for-10 on the day, scored three times, and drove in four.

Nick Olberding continues to hit the ball as well. The senior has a 12 game hitting streak, has hit safely in 13-of-15 IIAC games, and 12 multi-hit games. In IIAC games, Olberding is hitting .466 against Iowa Conference pitching this season.

The Duhawks outhit the Spartans 32-13 over the 14 innings.

Loras is now fourth in the Iowa Conference and holds series wins over four of the five teams around them in the standings. They have games remaining with Simpson, Dubuque, and Cornell, all of whom are below them in the current standings.

The weekend series with Simpson College begins this Friday at 6:00 PM at Petrakis Park. On Saturday, the team will recognize the senior class in a ceremony between games.
