Three Duhawks recognized by IIAC Jon Denham, Sports Information Director Dubuque, Iowa
Matt Barilla (Jr., Aurora, IL) and Adam Gross (So., Dubuque, IA) were awarded 1st Team All-IIAC honors and Brent Poffenbarger (Sr., Burlington, IA) 2nd Team honors on Wednesday following their impressive 2007 seasons.
Pitchers Matt Barilla and Brent Poffenbarger were the 1-2 punch at the top of the rotation for the Duhawks in 2007. The two combined for 17 of the 23 wins on the mound and each set school records during the season. Barilla (9 wins, 2.83 ERA) set the single season innings pitched mark at an even 89 and Poffenbarger (8 wins, 3.59 ERA) set the career innings pitched line at 223.
Adam Gross was among the league leaders in many offensive categories and started every game in centerfield for the Duhawks. He hit .383 for the season and set the single-season triples record at nine. Gross also led the team in stolen bases (15), runs (40), hits (54), RBI (29), slugging % (.631), and on base % (.439).
Loras finished the year 23-18 and were third in the IIAC standings in 2007. |
