Duhawks drop home, IIAC opener Jon Denham, Sports Information Director March 28, 2008
BOXSCORE
The Loras College baseball team lost the 2008 home opener to the Coe College Kohawks 7-2 on Friday. Mother nature was just kind enough to allow the IIAC opening game for the Duhawks to go forward after snow riddled the tristate area on Thursday.
Coe starter Ryan Nicholson won the battle on the mound over Loras starter Tim Carty. Nicholson threw a complete game, scattering five hits, striking out nine, and giving up two runs. Carty went 5.2, allowing six runs one start after throwing a complete game nine inning win of his own a week ago.
Tim Andrews led the way offensively for Loras, going 1-for-3, scoring one run and adding an RBI. Tyler Shireman scored the other Loras run. For the Kohawks, four players tallied multiple-hit games, including leadoff hitter Trent Svehla (3 RBI).
The Coe win was the first of the three game weekend series. Loras will try to bounce back and win the series on Saturday. First pitch of the 2 X 7-inning doubleheader is scheduled for 1:00 PM at Petrakis Park. |
