Five Duhawks named All-IIAC May 19, 2008

The Loras College baseball team had five players named to the All-IIAC team following the league tournament last weekend. Four Duhawks were on the second team and one was honorable mention.
In the infield, both Don Pirkle (1B) and Nick Olberding (SS) were named to the second team. Pirkle, a senior, improved his batting average .031 points during the IIAC Tournament and led the team in hitting at .348 for the year. He also led the team on on base percentage (.445). Olberding, a junior, started every game at shortstop and was close behind Pirkle at .331 for the season at the plate and had a team high 57 hits. Nick was also named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Team. He was a second team selection in the college division. A biological research major, he has a 3.91 GPA.
Brock Schneden (RF) represents the Loras outfielders as a second team selection this year as well. He led the team in RBI with 32 and tied for the team lead in homeruns with 4. Brock was named IIAC Player of the Week for the week ending April 27th. In IIAC games only, Schneden tied for the league lead in RBI.
Clark Egdorf (DH) took control of the designated hitter spot for Loras and had eight multi-hit games for the Duhawks in IIAC play. The lone lefty hitter in the lineup for Loras, Egdorf drove in five runs during the IIAC touranment and scored three as well. Clark was the fourth second team selection in 2008.
Loras starter Kevin Moriarty earned honorable mention for his work on the hill in 2008. The righty accounted for five of the Duhawks' 11 wins in the IIAC regular season. He led the team in that category and is also in the top ten in innings pitched, opponents batting average, and strikeouts in league games.
