The Peace and Justice Center is a living memorial to the life and vision of Father Ray Herman, a priest of the Archdiocese of Dubuque. Father Ray Herman, murdered in 1975 after thirteen years of serving the spiritual, medical, and educational needs of Bolivia's poor, lives on in the hearts of all who knew him. He is our modern-day martyr and hero.
The Peace and Justice Center, established in 1982 at Loras College, is located in Campus Ministry, 590 Alumni Campus Center. The Center is dedicated to the realization of Father Herman's vision of a more decent, loving, just and peaceful human community. Loras College is proud to remember Father Herman in this way. His life is a compelling example of the enduring values that the college holds as its own.
The Father Ray Herman Peace and Justice Center at Loras College has announced plans to implement collaborative initiatives with the Archdiocese of Dubuque to increase awareness of peace and justice issues. Loras College has received a grant from the Archdiocese to help enhance and maintain the Peace and Justice Center’s current Web site. The goal is to create an online resource that will be beneficial to people interested in social justice issues, specifically parish social concerns committees. A new layout will be coming soon!
