What is Math Club?

The Loras College Mathematics Club is a student chapter of the Mathematical Association of America. Its purpose is to enhance the appreciation for mathematics in both students and faculty, to encourage students to explore new developments and careers in the field of mathematics and related fields, and to provide opportunities for both students and faculty to socialize.

What does the Math Club do?

The Loras Math Club has many events throughout the year. Each year the club takes an educational trip. In previous years, the Club has gone to mathematical conferences at St. John's University and Drake University, and to companies and museums in Chicago. The club sponsors informative talks by faculty from Loras and other colleges. The club is also involved in a service project each semester. Service projects have ranged from holding a "Math Fun Day" for the Boys' and Girls' Club of Dubuque to volunteering for the annual Hunger Clean-Up.

The Club also enjoys coming together with faculty members in the department to socialize. Regular social events include the Homecoming Tailgate, annual Christmas Caroling Party, and the end of the year picnic. In recent years, faculty and students have had a very competitive series of volleyball games played on one of the campus sand courts.
