Learning Strategies

First year students in the Enhanced Program enroll in the two-credit Learning Strategies course both semesters of their first year (total of four credits). The class size is small, usually between six to twelve students, and allows for a comfortable classroom environment in which peer learning and sharing is encouraged.

      The Learning Strategies class may include the following topics:

  • Self Advocacy
  • Note Taking Strategies
  • Test Preparation & Test Taking Strategies
  • Time Management
  • Text Book Reading Strategies
  • Organizational Techniques
  • Stress Management
  • Presentation Skills  
  • Disabilities Unit: To develop an adult understanding of what it means to have a disability and the impact it has on a student’s academic career.
  • Major Exploration
  • Career Exploration
  • Vocabulary Development
  • Current Events
  • Service Learning Project: Students are involved in a local organization or agency.
