Learning Strategies
First year students in the Enhanced Program enroll in the two-credit Learning Strategies course both semesters of their first year (total of four credits). The class size is small, usually between six to twelve students, and allows for a comfortable classroom environment in which peer learning and sharing is encouraged.
The Learning Strategies class may include the following topics:
- Self Advocacy
- Note Taking Strategies
- Test Preparation & Test Taking Strategies
- Time Management
- Text Book Reading Strategies
- Organizational Techniques
- Stress Management
- Presentation Skills
- Disabilities Unit: To develop an adult understanding of what it means to have a disability and the impact it has on a student’s academic career.
- Major Exploration
- Career Exploration
- Vocabulary Development
- Current Events
- Service Learning Project: Students are involved in a local organization or agency.
