The pictures below are from the 2009 January term class trip to Costa Rica. The course - Bio 325 Environmental Issues in Costa Rica - investigates 3 different tropical forests in Costa Rica as well as several environmental issues there including sun vs shade coffee, clearcutting, banana and pineapple plantations, endhangered bird species, habitat loss and effects of af an active volcano on the surrounding environment. It is a 12 day trip where students learn first hand about the natural components of each natural system and start to or futher develop their own connection to the ecology and environmental problems of these tropical habitats. Biology majors and non majors are welcome. Offered during January term in 2012 and 2015 for 3 credits. Click here for additional pictures and slide presentation of the course.
