Loras College
The Division of Philosophy, Religious Studies and Theology

Loras strives to graduate students who can learn in active ways and think reflectively about what they learn.  For the college, two important results of active learning and reflectively thinking are the abilities to act in ways that are ethical and to contribute responsibly to the world.  The Division of Philosophy, Religious Studies and Theology offers students excellent opportunities to develop in all four of those areas.

Courses in this division lead students to reflect on the meaning and purpose of the world around them, and they encourage students to serve that world with compassion and respect.  Majors and minors in the division take classes that ask difficult questions about our existence so that, together, we might learn how to use the resources from great philosophical and religious traditions to change our communities in responsible ways.

Faculty in the division take seriously their vocations as teachers and scholars.  They work closely with students to teach, advise, and mentor them throughout all four years, and they stay current in their areas of expertise through scholarship and publication.  Members of the division enjoy meeting new students and they would welcome the chance to meet with any student interested in Philosophy, Religious Studies, or Theology.
