Pre Physical Therapy at Loras

The most common path followed by Loras students who are interested in becoming a Physical Therapist is to take the courses required for a Sports Science major on the PT track as described in the Loras College Undergraduate Bulletin .  A strong science background is needed as well as over 1000 hours of patient and modality contact experience as a PT Aide in a Physical Therapy clinic.  Some students who are in majors in Athletic Training or Biology have been successful in gaining admission as well. 

Critical Factors for Admission:

• Though competition is heavy for limited numbers of seats in PT programs, Loras has placed 1-5 students in various PT programs in the Midwest each year for the last 8 years. 
• Though jobs for new PT graduates were hard to find 4-5 years ago, currently (2004) there are openings for new PTs in many areas across the country.
• Most applicants are required to take the general GRE exam as part of the application process.
