Division of Math, Engineering & Computer Science
It’s not just about numbers anymore – Mathematics, Engineering, and Computer Science majors are among the most cutting edge programs available today and permeate nearly every industry. Loras capitalizes on this high demand and emphasizes student experience in a variety of hands-on ventures. First year through senior year, students take part in practical applications projects with a twist, from building fire-fighting and ping-pong ball collecting robots to converting satellite dishes into radio telescopes. Students will attend and present at many regional and national conferences. A highly developed student research program is in place to support students as they design and complete challenging and meaningful research projects. With Loras being a laptop campus everyone has access to the latest technology; both on campus and around the world. This extensive experience-based curriculum translates into successful potential job placement for students after graduation, including positions within Fortune 500 companies. There are many opportunities available to get practical experience before graduation through internships with companies such as IBM, Arthur Anderson, Eagle Window and Door and John Deere Dubuque Works. Of those who graduated from the program within the last decade, 100% reported obtaining employment or entry into graduate school within one year after graduation.
