Santiago, Spain Program Handbook(PDF)
Overview
This program is designed to give Loras students opportunities to learn about Spanish culture, literature and history while they live with families in Santiago. Students take 15 academic credits from the University of Santiago.
Location
The cathedral of Santiago de Compostela is the legendary burial place of St. James the Apostle. A thousand years ago Santiago was considered an outpost of Catholicism; since then "el camino de Santiago" has been one of the most important pilgrimages in Europe. The Day of the Apostle, celebrated every July, is an international Catholic festival.
Surrounded by farmland, Santiago today blends rural tranquility with the intellectual and cultural excitement of an urban area. Declared an European Cultural Center, the city is the seat of government for the autonomous region of Galicia and boasts La Universidad de Santiago, one of the finest universities in Spain, where Loras students will enroll in classes.
Academic Program
This spring semester program is open to Spanish majors and minors. All coursework is taken at the University of Santiago and is conducted in Spanish.
